Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

Describe how to identify patients at increased risk of respiratory depression after neuraxial opiates.

Discuss the methods to detect respiratory depression through monitoring for adequacy of ventilation, oxygenation, and level of consciousness.

The participants will be able to discuss what implantable patient devices will interfere with the operating room and radiology equipment and how to manage them.

The participant will be able to discuss the pharmacology of the new muscle relaxants and reversal agents (Sugammdex/Bridion) used in the operating room and ICU.

The participant will be able to discuss the latest findings and studies regarding the neurotoxicity of anesthetic agents in the pediatric patient and the developing brain.

The participant will be able to discuss the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias encountered in the OR, ICU and cardiac cath lab.

The participant will be able to better identify personnel practices that are suspicious to drug diversion and how to manage these situations.

The participant will be able to discuss the new revised guidelines for the treatment of sepsis.

The participant will be able to discuss the diagnosis and treatment of malignant hyperthermia and the new pharmacologic agents available to treat it, should it occur.

The participant will be able to discuss new uses of old drugs (ketamine) and variable uses of new, advanced ultrasound equipment in the OR, ICU and ER.

The participant will be able to discuss new advances in management of the cardiac patient and blood transfusion practices IN 2017.
